Cafe Bruges

Last night Sean and I were able to sneak away for a few hours while the kids went to a babysitting night at school.  We were thrilled to finally get to try a restaurant we've had our eye on for quite a while.  Cafe Bruges in Carlisle, PA was the place and boy were we glad we went.  It had to be one of the best meals we've had in a long time, not to mention some great beer too!  Cafe Bruges is a Belgian restaurant situated in downtown Carlisle, not far from the Dickinson College campus.  The decor is simple...dark paint, dark furnishings, dark wooden floors scattered with photographs of Belgium and beer memorabilia.  But the food, oh the food...it was amazing!  We started with the cheese croquettes which were delightful.  They were filled with a mixture of Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses and topped with a bit of lemon juice.  I ordered the steak frites with the horseradish mayonnaise dipping sauce (there are a few homemade sauces to choose from) and Sean had a wonderful slow cooked beef stew.  Of course both of our meals were paired with a Belgian beer.  I chose a beer from the tap,  Brugse Zot Dubbel (their house beer) while Sean went for a bottle of Rodenbach Classic.  To top off our date night we couldn't resist sharing a Belgian waffle that came with an apple/pear compote, whipped cream and chocolate sauce.  We were very pleased with the service and our overall experience with this restaurant and we can't wait to go back.  Fortunately for us, it is a place we could even bring the kids and not feel out of place whatsoever.  Check out the link to the restaurant's website and if you are ever in that area stop by...you won't be disappointed.  http://www.cafebruges.com/
